Original Lesson Plan
Objective: revision of AQ skills
Pre – requisites: students to have completed lessons on tackling AQ
Lesson:

  • Students will work in small groups of 4 – 5
  • Individually, students will read the passages provided on abortion (contrasting viewpoints)
  • Student to highlight thesis statement / main arguments etc
  • Small group discussion to brainstorm for ideas with reference to the AQ
  • Students to individually to write out their answer to the AQ + submit


Research
www.teachertube.com was useful as it gave us very interesting and specific videos on abortion. Still, we need to access www.youtube.com as it gives us more choices (though some are irrelevant!).

Modified Lesson Plan
Objective: revision of AQ skills
Pre – requisites: students to have completed lessons on tackling AQ

Lesson:
l Teacher to set up class blog
l Teacher to put up videos with contrasting viewpoints on abortion (approximately 3 videos each: in general, each passage would have approximately 3 main ideas)
Individual e - learning
l Students to view videos on the blog
l Students to respond to accompanying question by posting comments on the blog (min 1 comment per student)
l e.g. of question: Which viewpoint do you sympathise with?
l Teacher to prompt responses by asking leading questions such as “why do you think in video 1, Mr Smith feels that…?”
l Teacher to also moderate comments made

Individual written assignment
l Students to write responses to the AQ and submit the hard copy to the teacher upon returning to school.
l e.g. of question: To what extent is the issue of abortion significant to you and your generation? Use arguments from the blog / video as well as your own experiences to support your view.
